In December 2006, Barry Ciociola, owner of Large and Small Currency of America, purchased a small group of $5,000 & $10,000 notes in the Smoky Mountains. The four notes were all new to the census, and one note in particular gained attention throughout the hobby. That note was a series 1928 Atlanta $10,000 F.R.N. serial number 16. The note is the lowest known serial number of all $10,000 F.R.N.s and is one of only seven series 1928 notes known. The note was sold and then entered an auction where it eventually sold for an astounding $236,000! The note appeared on both the cover of Bank Note Reporter and Heritage's 2007 Central States catalog.
